A good overview of Italian cinema

RAI, Italy's major broadcast entity, has a site with a cultural focus, called Italica. One of the more interesting and instructive features of this sub-site is the one dedicated to Italian cinema, from the Fascist period and its escapist telefoni bianchi films, to the "new recruits," including, for example, Gabriele Muccino (more on him later).

Definitely a good and thorough treatment, in a pleasing non-linear style. Both for newbies and those familiar with Italian cinema. Check it out here.

Above, the great Vittorio de Sica does some hands-on directing of little Enzo Staiola for The Bicycle Thief.
