Today is the first day not only of the rest of your life (you knew that) but of the stationing in the Bel Paese of the military to maintain order. Starting in nine cities throughout that fair, but increasingly dangerous, land, soldiers will be sent to preside over sensitive locations, such as the US Consulate in Naples, immigrant centers, and particularly troubled zones, such as the station area in Padua, where I lived many years, and where I am grateful not to live any longer.
The soldiers have reportedly gotten a mixed reaction. This is the initial phase of the occupation- what else can it be called?- and is for now limited to the following cities: Rome, Milan, Naples, Bari, Palermo, Catania, Turin, Verona and Padua/Padova (in the photo).
