Word of the week: casino'

I previously spoke of false friends, those words which seem to be cognates between languages but really aren't.

Here's a false friend that you will ignore at your own risk: casino. Our English word for a gambling establishment means "bordello" in Italian, and by extension, a mess or complicated situation. The word you want has an accent on the end: casino'. In the photo, you see the casino' of Venice, but not the casino.
